In 2023, the City of Clarkesville celebrated its bicentennial year, marking two centuries of community, culture, and progress. To honor this milestone, Clarkesville Main Street partnered with dedicated volunteers and city staff to host a series of history-focused events throughout the year. Among these was the inaugural Clarkesville History Harvest—an event designed to bring the community together in celebration of shared heritage. On October 28, 2023, the City invited residents and visitors to the Historic Mauldin House and Gardens for a day dedicated to “harvesting history.”
A History Harvest is a community-based event where individuals contribute to the preservation of local history by sharing personal stories, photographs, family heirlooms, and other meaningful artifacts. In addition to collecting these treasures, the event features artisan demonstrations, local authors book signings, engaging historical talks, and guided tours of the Historic Mauldin buildings and Old Clarkesville Cemetery. The day offers a unique opportunity for neighbors to connect, for stories to be recorded, and for Clarkesville’s history to be preserved for future generations.
