Over the years Clarkesville has been known as a place that cares about its citizens. The Clarkesville Public Works Department prides itself on making sure that the needs of the citizens are met in a professional and courteous manner. Below is a list of the responsibilities of the department.
Water line repair and installation
The Public Works Department has a well trained staff that, at times, is seen out late at night to insure water is conserved as much as possible.
Sewer line repair and installation
From backups to line breaks, Public Works insures that the sewer lines are maintained and repaired.
The Clarkesville Public Works Department strives to provide and maintain clean and safe streets, rights-of-way, and drainage ways. On all of Clarkesville's city streets, the Public Works Department is responsible for paving and pothole repair, street sweeping, and storm water infrastructure and drainage ditch maintenance.
Yard Trimmings Collection
Yard trimmings such as leaves, grass clippings, tree limbs, and brush are collected twice a month. Limbs must be no longer than four feet and no larger than four inches in diameter. Trimmings should not be placed in garbage containers, in street, or in ditches.
Trimmings from the original development of a lot will not be collected. Trimmings generated by tree services are collected only after a natural disaster.
*Pickup schedule subject to change based upon Public Works project priorities.
The Public Works Department furnishes and delivers initial 96-gallon rollaway containers for the citizens convenience. Trash pickup is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Public Works maintains the grounds on its two parks and two cemeteries. Pitts Park is one of the most used parks in the area, and Public Works is proud to do our part to insure that it is presentable.
