Police Department

The Department has been under the Direction of Chief Brad Barrett since 2005. Chief Barrett is a native of Habersham County and has spent the majority of his life in the Clarkesville area.

Chief Barrett previously worked for the department from 1995 through 1998 and was a member of the Clarkesville Fire Department under the direction of Fire Chief Claude Marcus. Chief Barrett rejoined the Department full-time after moving to the city with his wife Angela in 2001.

Chief Barrett supervises and manages all functions of the Police Department’s Operations, and manages all Budgetary and Financial matters pertaining to the Police Department and Municipal Court. Chief Barrett is a 2010 graduate of the Supervision and Professional Management Program of Law Enforcement through the Columbus State University Command College. Chief Barrett graduated from the Northeast Georgia Police Academy in 1995 and completed The Georgia Association of Chief’s of Police Executive Training Program in 2006. Chief Barrett is assisted by Captain Danny Clouatre (Assistant Chief). Captain Clouatre joined the department in 2005 and quickly climbed the ranks and was promoted to Captain in 2007.

As well as serving in the administrative position of Assistant Chief, Captain Clouatre also supervises and manages all investigations for the department. Captain Clouatre is 1994 graduate of Gainesville College and a 2012 graduate of the Supervision and Professional Management Program of Law Enforcement through the Columbus State University Command College. Captain Clouatre graduated from the Northeast Georgia Police Academy in 2003 and completed the Georgia Association of Chief’s of Police Executive Training Program in 2009.

The patrol function of the department is supervised by Patrol Commander and Sergeant, Ryan Ledford. Sergeant Ledford joined the department in 2009 and is a 2007 graduate of North Georgia Technical College’s Criminal Justice Program. Sergeant Ledford is a 2007 graduate of the Northeast Georgia Police Academy, a native of White County, and a graduate of White County High School.
