The Clarkesville Fire Department, with its team of five full-time employees and 20 volunteers, is the central hub for urgent needs of the citizenry within a five-mile radius of its station. Staffed at all hours, every day throughout the year, the fire department is often contacted to handle a variety of emergencies other than fires. All department personnel are certified EMTs, paramedics or First Responders, qualifying them to assist with all kinds of medical emergencies. They also dispatch ambulance services, and they are called to assist with the elderly and infirm. The fire department handles many calls, ranging from fires to water and sewer leaks.

The fire department was started in the late 1940s when a group of men banded together to help their community. As the city continues to grow, Clarkesville firemen stay on top of technology to provide excellent service to the community.
