The City of Clarkesville Fire Department (CFD) is located just off the square in Downtown Clarkesville. Our department is a 30 member, combination career/volunteer department that provides First Response for Emergency Medical Services, Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention and Education, Extrication, Hazardous Materials Response, Water Rescue, and Technical Rescue to the citizens of our community. The Department houses 3 Pumpers, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Rescue/Light/Air Truck, and 1 Quick Response Vehicle.
Currently, the Department has maintained a fire insurance rating of ISO Class 5 since 1985, on a rating scale of 1-10. Clarkesville Fire recently has undergone a re-evaluation and expects to improve the rating by possibly more than 1 level, placing the Department in a category which only a few other fire departments in Georgia share. This improved rating can result in a substantial savings on fire insurance premiums for both Residential and Commercial property owners. The average response time to emergencies in the city is 4.4 minutes with a 700 call per year average number of responses.
