The City of Clarkesville Fire Department (CFD) is located just off the square in Downtown Clarkesville. Our department is a 30 member, combination career/volunteer department that provides First Response for Emergency Medical Services, Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention and Education, Extrication, Hazardous Materials Response, Water Rescue, and Technical Rescue to the citizens of our community. The Department houses 3 Pumpers, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Rescue/Light/Air Truck, and 1 Quick Response Vehicle.
Clarkesville Fire Department is proud to announce that it has improved its ISO rating to a Class 2. This is an improvement over the department's previous Class 3 rating. In May of this year an inspector paid a visit to evaluate the department on its Public Protection Classification (PPC). ISO's PPC plays an important role in the underwriting process at insurance companies. In fact, most U.S. insurers use PPC information as part of their decision making process what business to write, coverage to offer or prices to charge for personal or commercial property insurance.
When the previous Fire Chief Jerry Palmer took over in 2009 the rating was at a Class 5. In the years he was here the rating has improved 3 levels. This puts the department in a class with only about 1100 department in the country with a Class 2 rating and one of the few departments in the area with a rating this high. However this feat could not have been accomplished without the hard work and determination of the paid and volunteer staff of the department. It was through their long hours of training and response to calls that this could have been accomplished.
