Revitalize Downtown! That's the goal of Clarkesville Better Hometown. Each year, thousands of visitors are drawn to downtown Clarkesville to participate in events. With the addition of two new events, downtown was the place to be in 2012!
Friday Night Flicks
Friday Night Flicks kicked off its fourth season in Pitts Park. A partnership with Cornelia Better Hometown, this signature event entertained over 1200 movie-goers with a movie under the stars. Local non-profits sold concessions.
Magical Gardens of Mauldin
An enchanting event designed to stimulate the imagination of children (and parents!) The Mauldin House Gardens come to life in this magical Fairy and Dragon experience, complete with face-painting, live theater, music, magic and games. This unique event also features a nine foot dragon!
The bunny trail ended at the Mauldin House, where over 200 children gathered for a picture with the Easter Bunny himself.
Mountain Laurel Festival
The City of Clarkesville celebrated a milestone of the Festival - a beloved tradition that has been a fixture in Clarkesville for fifty years. This year's festival included the addition of a Carnival, big-named entertainment and a finale fireworks show. The Festival drew 8000 visitors.
Parents Night Out-NEW!
Clarkesville Better Hometown partnered with the YMCA to bring a new event to downtown, designed for moms and dads! Parents Night Out, held the second Friday of each month, offers childcare while parents are encouraged to shop and dine downtown. Local businesses extended hours and eateries offered specials to participants.
A Taste of Clarkesville
A culinary carnival featuring tastes from downtown restaurants, local wineries and nearby breweries. This year's event welcomed 3000 tasters!
Back to School Bash-NEW!
A new event designed to help students prepare for the new school year. Free school supplies, health screenings, haircuts - as well as fun, games and a free movie, helped excite over 1500 students. $50,000 in donations and services were received.
Free outdoor concert series showcasing local musical talent continued on the expanded stage at Pitts Park.
Worldwide Photo Walk
An annual tradition that invites photo enthusiasts of all skill levels to walk the streets of downtown, capturing Clarkesville on camera.
A Downtown Clarkesville Christmas
Downtown comes to life with the annual tree-lighting, caroling, hot cocoa and Santa at the gazebo, and the ever-popular Windows at Woods. Combined with the Christmas light contest, extended shopping hours, and the Elves on our Shelves Hunt, this festive celebration brings hundreds of visitors Downtown each year.
We apologize for any inconveniece this may cause as we work to include this feature into our new site. Please check back in February.
